Atlanta Symphony Hall

1280 Peachtree Street NE, Atlanta, GA  30309

Atlanta Symphony Hall is the home of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra located within the Woodruff Arts Center, which also includes the High Museum of Art and the Alliance Theatre.

Venue:

The capacity is 1,762 seats on three levels – orchestra, lower and upper balconies. The Hall may date back to the center’s original construction in 1965.  Building a new Hall or renovating the existing facility has been discussed for some time to update it with modern acoustic engineering.

For pop/rock concerts, ASH generally presents shows for middle-aged fans.  This is well suited as fans remain mostly seated for many shows, and although a performer may choose to play quite loud, it’s not of the ear-splitting variety found elsewhere.  Hearing protection is recommended just in case.

The venue is within the Woodruff Arts building, entered from the north or south sides of the building.  Concessions include sodas, beer, wine and mixed drinks, but no food items.

The majority of staff are volunteers… so be nice.   They’re all very eager to assist, but they will also enforce keeping the walkways on either side of the seating area clear.

Tickets:

There are no obstructed views and the incline allows good sight lines over those seated in front depending on their height.  There’s not a bad spot for seated shows, though the pit and front orchestra area may clip some performers as is typical of the angle.  Sound quality is solid even in the upper reaches.

The diagram below is helpful, keeping in mind that seats are numbered from either side towards the middle.  There are no even and odds.  It’s possible to buy adjacent tickets both numbered the same, but from the Left and Right per the diagram below.

Parking:

The Woodruff Arts Center Garage is most easily accessed on Arts Center Way, and it has an advantage for proximity.  However, fees are $30 for concerts or $40 for premium parking.  Depending on the popularity of the show, this may be sold out by the time you arrive.  Pre-paid/reserved parking is available at 404-733-4800.

The best parking spot is Promenade Parking Garage, which has two entrances on 15th St. NE, on the southern side of the building.  This requires a short uphill walk, but it is cheaper and surprisingly easy to exit after a performance.  The Boys and Girls Club garage at 1275 Peachtree St. is another option and is located directly across the street from the venue.

Dining:

Colony Square is located a short distance away on Peachtree St.  5 Church Midtown, Holeman & Finch Public House, and Establishment are legit options, but you should call ahead for a reservation.  Pour Taproom is also nearby on Peachtree St for pub food and beer.

Nan Thai is an uphill walk to the venue but is a very worthy upscale option.  If you park there, make sure to coordinate with the valet to park your car in the few unfenced spaces near the restaurant, because the adjacent secured lot is not accessible once the staff leaves.
