Smith’s Olde Bar

Smith’s Olde Bar (A Neighborhood Joint!)

1578 Piedmont Ave, NE, Atlanta, GA

Venue:

Smith’s Olde Bar (SOB) opened in 1994, hosting many acts, well-known and far less so.  Stevie Ray Vaughn or Jason Isbell after he left DBT?  Yeah.

The street level entrance is mainly for the bar with requisite bar food (tater tots recommended).  It’s good.  The larger venue (aka the music room) is actually upstairs (and to the right in photo above).  If you arrive early for dinner and drinks and linger because things seem slow, keep in mind that others not dining may slip through a different entrance and grab standing space in front of the stage or tables around the periphery.  There’s a full service bar up there, too.

Capacity is ~300, and it’s a very nice space, remodeled during the pandemic.  The sound is good, stage lighting options are limited, but so what?  It’s an intimate venue, and the vast majority of those attending should find something about it that made the venue work for them.

The Atlanta Room is an alternate room with a capacity of ~100.

Parking:

SOB has a small parking lot to the rear which should be ignored.  Instead, the Ansley Mall shopping center parking lot across Monroe Dr. NE is the best option, adjacent to the Chevron on the corner of Monroe and Piedmont. .

Restaurants:

Other than Smith’s, you might try Grindhouse Killer Burger or Fat Matt’s Rib Shack, both about a half mile north on Piedmont Ave NE.

The Atlanta Room - on main level, much smaller than the Music Room upstairs
